For the second time, San Francisco's four-mile-long Rainbow Flag will illuminate Market Street this weekend for Pride Weekend 2025.rainbow laser beam The installation, which debuted in 2022 to cheers from a crowd that stretched for blocks, will have six lasers projecting colorful beams — purple, blue, green, yellow, and red — from Embarcadero Plaza all the way up to Twin Peaks to form what organizers call the world's largest gay flag.
The event also features a 45-foot-tall sculpture of the iconic “gaysers” painted in the colors of the Pride flag. Organizers say the lasers are an important and symbolic gesture in light of Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis' directive to remove public art and a rainbow crosswalk in St. Petersburg.
The laser cannons will turn on nightly around sunset and remain lit through sunrise.
The kickoff party begins Friday at 8pm on the plaza, with music and drag performances from Dykes on Bikes and the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence. The display will include a poignant moment at the base of the laser cannons: Cleve Jones, a prominent LGBTQ rights advocate, will officiate marriage recommitment ceremonies for two activists who got married during the Winter of Love only to have their unions voided by the state one month later.
